Magnus David Peter Nagl was born on 31 March 2012 at 0709am after 53 hours of painful early labour, 6 hours with an epidural and then an emergency c-section after he got himself into an odd position. Nothing can prepare you for the first weeks of parenthood and we're all getting used to each other, but he is absolutely amazing and we are both totally in love with him. Jon has written his thoughts here.

Magnus is named to keep an Orkney connection (although being atheists it would feel a bit odd to name him after a saint!), and also after his great-grandpa and one of Jon's uncles.

Oh how lovely he is! I hope you are getting plenty of help (mustn't lift the kettle even!) and having some lithesome moments all together. Many congratulations to the three of you. Soon you will find that it's hard to imagine your previous life. Welcome wee Magnus!

Congratulations - he is beautiful. Hope you are feeling better , I can't imagine how a long labour is but mine was hard enough including a baby taht got stuck and a vacuum was needed. Take care - the first weeks/months are a blur (it was for me)

Sounds like you had a bit of a time of it. Having your first baby is quite a shock to the system, both during birth and for the first couple of months after. The initial sleep deprivation is pretty awful, I hope he's letting you have a few hours!
